About Chutzpah
Observant or secular, Zionist or apolitical, Jews share a culture and a bond that transcends whether you keep kosher or don’t think twice about ordering a bacon cheeseburger. It takes chutzpah to call yourself a Jew when you defy all the religious conventions, or are the first to integrate a new neighborhood, or break through a gentiles-only barrier (yes, Virginia, they still exist). And it takes Chutzpah, the magazine, to celebrate the people making a difference in the region they call home, from Philly to Princeton, from Bucks County to the Main Line—the groundbreakers, the business and social leaders, the famous and the philanthropists, the authors and the artists. From where to get the most authentic pastrami to ticket-scalping for the High Holy Days, every issue of Chutzpah comes with an insider’s guide to restaurants, shops, galleries and special events and will document food, fashion, design and trends in the area.
At its heart are cover stories and features that define the issues important to this generation of Jews, as influential as ever, yet at times more assimilated than ever and wondering if that’s OK. Chutzpah explores how to stay connected to your roots without letting them hold you back.
The Chutzpah team represents over 30 years in the magazine and web development business including special interest, national and regional publications. The creative force behind Chutzpah is Cantor Design and publisher Andrew Cantor, a graduate of University of the Arts, whose regional magazines Mainline, Bucks Life and In Your Prime have changed the landscape of local periodicals. Content chief Julie Canter, a University of Pennsylvania graduate who witnessed Philly’s transformation into foodie mecca in the ’70s, has personally conceptualized and launched over two dozen magazines. Cantor and Canter first collaborated at Lifestyle Ventures LLC on a group of special interest magazines led by the million+ reader flagships American Cheerleader and Dance Spirit; with Canter as president, that company ultimately sold in ’03 for over $18MM. Working with local writers, photographers and artists as well as correspondents in Israel, the edit and design crew of Chutzpah is currently looking for additional contributors and welcomes queries at editor@chutzpahmag.com.
